Cipmolnu Capsules Uses, Dosage, Side Effects

Description of Cipmolnu Capsules

Cipmolnu capsule is an oral antiviral drug for the treatment of corona virus disease.

It contains Molnupiravir as its active ingredient. It also contains inert ingredients called excipients in sufficient quantities.

Cipmolnu comes as hard capsules containing 200 mg of Molnupiravir each.

In the future, we could have more dosage forms of Molnupiravir. These may include its tablets, syrup or powder for suspension.

How Cipmolnu capsules work

This section discusses the mechanism of action of Molnupiravir.

Molnupiravir is a prodrug that is converted through metabolism to its active form called ribonucleoside triphosphate (NHC-TP).

It is first metabolised into ribonucleoside analogue, N-hydroxycytidine (NHC). The NHC is then distributed into human cells.

In the cells, NHC is phosphorylated to the active form of Molnupiravir which is NHC-TP as noted above.

The NHC-TP incorporates into viral RNA by the viral RNA polymerase.

The incorporation results in an accumulation of errors in the viral genome leading to inhibition of replication.
